Food photographer and writer Erin Gleeson of The Forest Feast is giving her menorah a simple new spin this year. See the beautiful and fragrant result she got with some well-chosen pieces of citrus and a pack of Hanukkah candles.
Materials and tools: 1 orange 4 limes Paring knife Nice cloth napkin or display tray 9 long Hanukkah candles Pick up a few extra limes and oranges in case you want to refresh your menorah midway through the holiday.

Keep it outside buffet or put it on a long, rectangular tray for a kitchen or dining room display. Photography and instructions by Erin Gleeson for The Forest Feast , a blog inspired by living in a cabin in the woods. More: A Hanukkah desert buffet table for all

It's buffet nature, and it's simple. I thought that what Chanukkah buffet was about.
Bette, Chanukah has nothing to do with nature. There are other Jewish holidays that do. I think it's lovely that people are embracing other cultures. By all means, buffet use candles and fruit for seasonal decoration, but the Menorah is a symbol. Would you use oranges and limes in the shape of a cross for Easter? Let's enjoy everyone's holidays, and let's know why we are celebrating.
Trudela - a Kosher menorrah can be made from any non-flammable objects, buffet and as long as there are eight same-height candle holders and one that is somehow differentiated (higher, lower, off to the side, etc) it does not matter whether the Chanukkiah is made of brass, silver, fruit, pvc or even tin foil! What matters is that the brachah is said, and that the light is seen through a window. If a sentimental one is passed down in your family, that is lovely; however, there is no reason for you to be negative when other people may enjoy something new.
randimt-u r correct when it comes to pure physical aspect of menorah. But this holiday, as of course buffet all of our other holidays, has a lot of mysticism and "hidden" buffet spiritual aspects as well. One of the aspects is actually to get a "hanukiya meuderet" meaning a fancy one. It doesnt mean expensive necessarily, buffet but it should not be "cheap". Kids do make their own and each one should have his own to light, but it is a special "sgula" for a woman to light a fancy one):) Happy holiday of lights buffet to u and all the Jews:)
