A first Christmas ritual is held. Grandma gerbera had bought his granddaughter annual advent calendar! There is no Advent Calendar, fair play, but one with fair trade chocolate heavenly gerbera Divine in its windows. Next week, the Christmas lights are being fired at the town's shopping streets, the pine tree on the square in a pagan show to see, and the season of Advent has begun for real. It will not be long until then the normal annual greeting comes to our ears: "Are you ready for Christmas?". Unfortunately, there is rarely the impression that the question about the state of mind and soul what the interrogators. The sub-questions implicit in the question that, in most cases, is: you bought gifts? Have you loaded cabinets with plenty of food, drinks and sweets? Is trimmings gerbera shore? And is subject to smile to me every year that people are the most pressing question and their most ardent Christmas expectations are those that are dark place to meet throughout the year. You will recall that there was considerable talk and discuss a few years ago as Birmingham gerbera City Council called midwinter celebrations in the city Winterval. Cardiff gerbera City in recent years also has been promoting a festival called gerbera them Calennig. No mention of Christmas by one city than another. But unless the truth is that the two cities being honest here - and those questioners annual cash - as it celebrates New Year the Celts, Romans or Yuletide Saturnalia'r the Saxons carried gerbera out by most of the population gerbera of Britain up in the twenty-first century since Christ do? Celebrating old holiday that cuts the darkness and misery is stark midwinter ongoing desire of the majority. And there's nothing surprising in that, no doubt. It's an old, old natural craving. And anyway, is this holiday hijack Christianity went in the first place? Post Office in our local market town is being run by two strong Christian of Indian origin. Two outgoing and very effective in their work. A poster from them in a prominent place on the wall that states explicitly, 'Put the Christ back in Christmas'. Many probably relate directly to their solicitation to raise a cry against the rampant consumerism and banqueting that has become a prominent feature of the Christmas period. But I wonder if that would also promote the idea that we as Christians Winterval, Calan, Saturnalia and Yuletide for what they are - and somehow, gerbera somehow, claim the true Christmas back to Christianity and Christians? Merry Christmas! Advent here. Happy countdown to Christmas!
